I am looking at a 2004 Nissan Xterra, 4wd, standard transmission. MH magazine says to tow four down with the transfer case in neutral, and the owners manual say to tow with the transfer case in 2H.

Anyone out there with this vehicle. What is the correct procedure. I would think it would be as per the owners manual.

I am towing a 2007 Nissan Frontier 4X4 NISMO, 6 speed so far its doing real good, 2000 towed miles with a total of 5ooo on the Nissan. I tow it in nutral with the 4 wheel drive in 2H. (They don't have a real transfer case) The manual says to start up in and let run in nutral for 2 minutes evry 500 miles. I start it and let run while I am getting gas in the M/H every time I get gas so I am overdoing it but it more convenient to let run every 200 miles while gassing up.

Follow the owner manual - to do anything else would void your warranty on transmission and drivetrain problems. Besides, they ought to know what is best for this truck.
