My wife and I are totally new at this! just bought our first MH.

We attend a LOT of tradeshows and expos, and have a small load of gear that goes into each show. Just to give you an idea of how much stuff I'm talking about, everything will fit neatly into the back of my 2006 range rover.... which of course, I can't tow 4 wheels down (not 100% sure on that, but it's expensive to fix, so I'm not even gonna try it.)

So what this means is, I need to tow something that has some room in the back. Even if I have to remove the backseats.

This brings me down to 3 or 4 vehicles.

Remco's website has a list of their favs to tow, and the Town and Country was right at the top. I thought 'o boy', I can get one of them cheap, and it's got tons of room!

But reading on this board, members report transmissions overheating.

Leads me to my next choice, and honestly, my first pick to start with, the jeep grand cherokee, 00 to 08, cash car 4x4 that runs is all I want. I like the 4x4 ability and wonder if there are years that cannot be flat towed? It's confusing as to what configuration works or is problematic.

Backup plan is a tahoe or CRV, but i would need 07 crv and up cause of the size change in the back that year, but I hear they need to be stopped and turned on every so many miles + they are more expensive that year.

I personally would like to be 6000 dollars out the door cash

can anyone give me any experienced advice here?

or possibly a suzuki grand vitara? I'm seeing 06's in the 10k range, which means they can be had for 6 to 8

With the Grand Cherokee all you need is one with a transfer case with a neutral position. Jeep's cheapest trnsfer case is just all wheel drive without neutral or low range. There are a lot of them around; so check that before you commit. We tow a Sierra (Silverado); they are cheaper and more plentiful then Tahoes. Put a cap on one and you can carry almost anything.

Now this is another great consideration. A chevy or gmc pickup truck with a camper shell on the back.

Most times we can park right at the convention center with hookups, but there are occasions we will need to park a few hours away and detach from the mother ship and drive in.

Do you mind if I ask what year you are towing?

crazy - dealers are asking 14k for a chevy silverado 4x4 2005 with 200k miles on it. HA are they insane?

also the manual on the town and country says DON'T TOW ME, i can't understand why remco would have it listed as vehicle #1 on their list... so odd.

We tow a Dodge Dakota 4x4. We changed from a jeep because I wanted to take my ATV or canoe in the bed. It's been a great unit and easy to hook up.

Our Sierra is a 2011 4x4. GM also has different transfer cases; make sure it has a neutral postion. We only paid about 30K NEW with leather etc!!!

We tow an 05 Tahoe. Tows extremely well. Lay the back seats down and it will hold a bunch. A little heavy at 5100#. Just be sure what ever you get has a neutral position in the transfer case.

4 seasons of snowbirding , 15,000 miles towed, on my 2000 Caravan.
3.8l with the A-604 trans,( older 4sps overdrive designation) and Remco pump. no issues with pump or trans .
If memory serves, towing the AWD Town & Country / Caravan, was a no-no.

I'm really trying to be reasonable on spending. I know I'm going to have to spend mulah for the plates, bars, braking and all that stuff... so I'm really trying to squeeze this.

Pretty is not that important... runs mechanically well and has working ac, much more important. So like.. the inside could be used up a bit, dents, dings, scratches... I could care less about any of that. Just run like a beast and I'm super pleased

So if I do a pickup, i would have to put a camper shell on it in the event of some rain on my trade show gear.

If the Silverado's are too high, look at an extended cab Colorado with a cap on an extended box. We pulled one for years and loved it. Just needed a lot more room so we went to the Silverado.
