Patriot braking system question

Previous owner sold me his braking system along with tow package. Never used the Patriot BRK2012. Hooked up and initialized, but I am guessing there’s no way to test it with the manual button because you have to be moving right? It’s my understanding that the way this system works is based on using an accelerometer to sense deceleration.

Can anyone confirm that the only way to know its working correctly is to actually take if for a test drive?

Thanks in advance!

If it's the same model as mine, Patriot II,
monitor should say ready

Do you have a manual? Attach the claw, plug it in, adjust the seat so the cushion is up to but not touching the pad, press power, then press setup. The Patriot should press on the pedal.

In the coach the monitor should show you the braking effort on a gray gradient scale. That's how you know it's working and by how much. It does not always come on if your settings are too light or the coach braking is light or your coasting

Have you adjusted the settings? This is very important

Mine is model BRK2012, which I believe would be classified as Patriot 1.I do have a manual and set it up as directed. There is no gray gradient scale on this one. My coach monitor only has a number related to gain which is adjusted by a dial. It also has a 4 lights: on/off, breakaway on, tow break active, error. There is a manual override button at the bottom that can be used to break manually. I used this button to see if the toad unit was working, but it does nothing. I know the monitor is synced to the in toad unit because the gain changes on it when adjusted from the monitor

I am thinking that the manual override does not cause breaking action because the towed vehicle is not in motion. Just looking for clarification as to whether the system doesn’t enable braking action while standing still.

I would call Blue Ox customer service and ask them

Sounds like the differences in version levels between 1 and 2 are significant

Between 2 and 3 not so much as far as my understanding goes
