Hi All,

This past weekend I installed the baseplate and wiring harness on my vehicle, which turned out good but wasn't easy. I still have to finish up a couple of things, mount breakaway switch, air line disconnect and splice in the wire connector to harness all at the front of the vehicle. What I'd like to see how others made these connections and also see how the whole system looks, tow bar, saftey cables, and breakaway cable.
I'm going with a Blue Ox Aventa LX tow bar which I still have to purchase along with saftey cables and electrical cable. I know there are different lengths of cables but what do I purchase?

I don't have the photos you want, but I would suggest that when you hook everything up that the tow bar is even with ground and not slanted up or down. To do this may require a drop down receiver. My chassis is 22" high and I tow an HHR which is low to the ground. I had to put on a 10" drop down receiver .

Clifftall thanks for the reply. The hitch on my MH is 19" and the car is 12" so I'm going with a 6" drop.

You want the cables to be long enough to have adequate slack for turns but short enough so they don't drag on the pavement. Just how long that is depends on your rig. You can wrap the wires and safety cable around the arm of the tow bar if you need to t take up some slack.

As I understand, if you have a tow bar that stays on the motorhome when not using it(blue ox) it doesn't matter if it is not level.

That is not correct sir. Go to blueox.com, tech tip/ articles and then towing phsics101. I would link this for you but I'm on my iPhone and don't know how to.

You can also read the sticky at the top of this forum called "Tow Bar Angle Height Difference." Blue Ox recommends the difference in height be no more than 4". Lots of bad things can happen if it's more than that.

A little late...but,
Blue Ox's saftey cables used with their towbars are pretty much standard at the 7' length. I bought mine here: Blue Ox Safety Cables - BX88 along with the receiver/tow bar lock set, bar cover and anti-rattle fixture for the tow bar at the receiver...doesn't spending money in mast quanities LIFT one's spirits?
