Possible to Tow Two Toads?
I know it's weird, but is it possible to tow two toads, one connected to each other? I have two Jeep Wranglers (1997 and 2008) and they both have the base plate and wiring. My thought was to have the first Jeep tow the second Jeep with a Blue Ox bar just like the MH does.
I know they would need braking systems. My MH has the towing capacity for both. Not sure if that would be legal in all states, but I've seen MH's tow toads with boats behind them. Thanks!

Hi GT,
Many states do not allow double towing. In those that do, a special permit is required. I'm not sure how aggressively this is enforced. You can be sure, if there is a accident, you'll be taken to the cleaners. Go to http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm for guidance.

Possible? Sure.
A good idea? No.
Legal? Not in a lot of states.
Safe? No.
I would expect the 2nd toad to track like an old farm wagon.
I think it would draw the attention of the cops.

In those states where double towing is allowed, many (most?) require that the first hitch be a 5th wheel-type.

I know it is legal in Utah, and definitely not legal in Washington state.

Just because you've seen it done, doesn't mean it's safe or legal. Be smarter than what you've seen others do - I just might be on the road the same time as you, and I sure don't want to be the one saying "I wish that driver had done it differently"!

I would have considered it, but you guys have deterred me. My wife didn't like the idea. I guess she is smarter than me. However, it sure would look cool going down the road.

Have you checked on a trailer that will haul both Jeeps? Seems like a safer method than trying to hook them to each other and towing both of them.

I think the big difference you're not thinking about is the difference between towing two trailers with two fixed axles and two jeeps with 4 axles, two of which have pivots. As far as I know the laws don't require a 5th wheel hitch, but there is overall length limits, and separate weight limits and length limits for the "caboose" in the arrangement we are talking about. I think Dirk hit the nail on the head with his farm wagon idea!
