PT Cruiser w/ Manual Transmission

Can anyone in the know tell me whether the PT Cruiser with a MANUAL transmission racks up miles on the odo when being towed 4-down? Someone is trying to sell one with 90k miles on it claiming a lot of those miles were while being towed. The car comes with base plates and hitch, so it could be true, but it seems to me that most cars these days have electronic speedos and probably don't register if the ignition is off. Maybe I'm wrong?

I've only towed my Cruiser once from Phoenix to Colorado. I'm pretty sure it didn't register those miles on the odometer. Also, I bought the 11 year old car from someone that also just used it as a toad. It only had 57K and was like new.

My toad, a 2001 PT Cruiser, 5 speed manual, does rack up the miles when it is towed behind the MH! I even installed a battery disconnect, and it still puts the miles on the odometer! Maybe the newer ones don't, but mine for sure does!
By the way, it makes a great toad, plenty of room, for 4 adults comfortably, plus room for groceries, laundry, etc. It tows great, weight is under 3000 lbs., and I don't even know it is back there behind our Windsor! Rail!

Well, that's certainly good to know… thanks Rail! This one is a 2005 and looks to be in great shape. I feel a whole lot better about it just knowing the seller wasn't lying. I used to rent PT Cruisers frequently back when I traveled a lot on business and always found them to be very practical and fun to drive. If this one runs as good as it looks it should be mine by the end of the day.

Well, I went ahead and bought the PT for $2k, and that included a Roadmaster Sterling hitch and a Brake Buddy Classic! Only thing I can find wrong is a leaky power steering pump and a previously undisclosed dent on the passenger front door that wasn't visible in the ad. Did I mention my new hobby is automotive paint and body?

The interior and most of the rest of the paint is like new, so I feel slightly like I've won the lottery!

Sounds like you got a great deal, for sure! I got mine for $1500.00, and it was a 2 owner, the guy I got it from had really took great care of it, and it needed nothing! For peace of mind, I replaced the tires, bought the base plate and tow bar new, from PPL, a Demco, and got the base plate installed by a friend, and it tows great! Good luck! Rail!
PS, great color!
