Pulling A Stick Shift

I am preparing our 2006 Scion xB to pull behind our bus. I am planning to install the baseplate tomorrow and may test it on a 400 mile run I need to make Sat-Tues.

It is towable four wheels down and the instructions are simple. It is the first stick shift manual transmission I have pulled. I am a little concerned about the transmission slipping into gear during transit.

Anybody ever experience a problem with that?

Do you consider it a risk at all?

If so, what have you done to minimize the risk?

Anything else I should be aware of?

I pull a manual transmission vehicle with the transmission in neutral. Have towed it several thousand miles with no problems.

Just be sure not to stack anything in the vehicle that might shift when braking and knock the shift lever in gear. It is not going to jump in gear on its own!

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

The install went great this evening. For more pictures of the install go HERE.

With the tabs removed it is virtually invisible.

I towed a 2003 PT Cruiser with a manual transmission for over 40,000 miles including a trip from Ohio to Alaska and back - no problems. I agree about making sure that the stick doesn't get knocked into gear. Make sure that the steering wheel doesn't lock.

Have fun and travel safe.

I towed a Hyundai Accent manual transmission model for six years all over the country, flat land and mountains, and never experienced the tranny jumping into gear. IMO, it is a non-issue.
