Question for those flat towing a Smart Car

Does your Smart Car have power steering or manual steering? I know they make them both ways.

I read somewhere that the manual steering models tow better? Not sure if that's true or not?

Anyway, I think I want a Smart Car to play with for a while and I will want to flat tow it behind our motorhome. I don't currently own one, but just starting to look at them. Hoping to find a nice one, 2012 or newer.

Thanks, Dale

I tow a 2013 smart, power steering. Can’t compare as not towed a manual steering. But so far no problems. Use a ready brake ll, which is probably over kill for the little smart. Took 2days by myself to install everything. Check the YouTube vids for installation. E450 never knows it’s there.

Ordered a Smart in 5-2007 and finally got it in 8-2008. Had to dissasemble whole car to put Blue Ox base plate on. Towed it once. Ran off side of road and scraped the lawnmower oil filter and locked up the motor. Couldn't find a used one and a new 3Cyl Mitsubishi, which what is was, was $8000. I only paid $12,800 for it new. Insurance totaled it out and gave me $9400. and that was in 2015. 7 years old with 18,000 miles on it. I miss it.

Power steering is electric. It will tow just fine.

We towed a smart car diesel for years....but on a little trailer. . Switched it out for an electric in 2015. The diesel had manual steering, the electric had power steering. We have since sold the motorhome and car.

Do you use a bungie cord from the steering wheel to the seat base? I have read some people do that?
Thanks,
Dale
