Question regarding towing BMW i3 four-down

I have a 2015 Sprinter 3500 / Era with the 3 liter diesel, and am considering buying a 2017 BMW i3 with range extender to use as a toad. Is it possible to tow this safely four-down without having to modify the toad? I understand BMW's position on this, but I wonder if there might be some sort of work-around. The alternative would be to forego the new acquisition, and just rig my 2014 X1 for four-down towing. Thoughts?

I don't know of any electric car that can be towed.
What does the owners manual say?
You can do an internet search and read it.

I don’t know how you are going to set up your X1 for 4 down either.....

At some point, you just have to realize some (most) vehicles are not suitable for 4 down towing.

When we decided to get our coach, our first RV, quickly realized that our 3 year old Mercedes GLK 4Matic with only 20,000 miles on it, had to go. Just sucked it up, and traded it in for our Cherokee Trailhawk; just part of the “all in” cost to go RVing. The interesting thing is, we’ve never missed the Merc.......

Good luck

I think that the closest you can get to a flat-towable BMW is a front-drive manual-transmission Mini Cooper. You may have to go back several model years to get one that will work. Unfortunately, no xDrive BMW models are flat-towable, not even the manual transmission models. I have two of them, and wish it were otherwise. The X3 would be a great toad.

From the owners manual:

"Your vehicle is not permitted to be towed. Therefore, contact a service center in the
event of a breakdown.
Do not have the vehicle towed
Have your vehicle transported on a load‐
ing platform only; otherwise, damage may occur.
The vehicle should only be transported on a
loading platform."
