RAM 5500 brake controller in MH with Airforce 1 in TOAD

As the title suggests we are looking hard a Class C on the RAM 5500 with a factory tow brake controller. In the past I’ve had to install an Airforce1 controller in the MH. Any chance the RAM factory controller can control the TOAD brakes from the 7 pin and make my life easy? My Google search skills are failing me….

No. The AF 1 relies on air to actuate the toad’s brakes. You don’t have air brakes on your RAM chassis, so the AF1 on your toad won’t work. Demco makes a similar unit to the AF1 for coaches with hydraulic brakes like yours. I can’t recall their name for it right now. You definitely need a different system on your toad to work with your new coach.

That makes sense now. Of course. I guess now the Q is whether the stock RAM can control the Demco...

As far as I know, there is not a toad braking system on the market that is compatible with a trailer brake controller (unless of course we're talking about tow dollies with electric brakes). I've always thought it made sense to design a toad braking system that was controlled by a trailer brake controller, but then again toad braking systems have always kind of been their own animal with no design or performance standards that I'm aware of.
