Ready Brute Tow bar and blue ox or RoadMaster base plates Chevy Sonic 2015

I am purchasing a 2015 Sonic LT for towing 4 down. I used to tow a 2003 Chevy Tracker with a RoadMaster setup that included the Even Brake supplemental braking system.

I have purchased a barely used Ready Brute tow bar that includes their cable-based system. It already has the clevis for a blue ox baseplate, but I will also consider getting a RoadMaster baseplate and updated clevises.

I see on an older post that I canít reply to that @Rockwood27 has/had a Sonic setup that uses this solution. Any chance that you or another member has pictures of the hole into the firewall, photos of how it routed through the engine compartment and also at the bumper cover? Which baseplate did you use?

Also, the catch with the used Ready Brute is that I donít have the cable that goes through the engine compartment. It looks like the same cabling one can purchase at Home Depot and be cut to fit, but I may be mistaken. I would also expect there might be a grommet at the bumper cover and firewall pass through.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can call NSA, the folks that make Ready Brute. You can buy a "hook up" kit that will include everything you need to connect the tow bar with the inside brake pedal. And it will have instructions to do so.

I have been using their tow bars for years, and still do. As do many other users on the site. https://www.readybrake.com/contact.html

OP, I just went through this. I bought some cable from HD to run the brake but it wasn't the same as the original cable I had from Reid Brute. The cable from HD was twisted and my original cable was braided...I think. Anyhow, I ended up being able to use the original cable I had on my previous Toad. Call NSA and they can send you a new set up.

Also I installed the RM in my CRV and all in all I was very pleased with the product. I test pulled my Toad today and the brake was working well. I have just finished up with the overhaul. New tow hitch on the CRV (I double tow) new base plate on the CRV, new trailer harness on the CRV for the boat. I've been busy...and bloody, but that goes with the territory. Had to replace the clevis's on my Redi brute to fit the RM. $110, but a far cry from the $500 that Blue ox wants for their Gold plated ones.

You can get the cable on eBay - they also have the ReadiStop breakaway cable if you need that.

Thank you very much for the replies. I will be ordering the baseplates in a few days and have a message in to NSA on the clevis and cabling.
