ReadyBrute Elite towbar problem

Back in 2012 I bought a set of the ReadyBrute Elite towbars. They have been great for the last 7 years!

This last weekend we took a trip towing the CRV. When we arrived at our destination I found that the locking arm on one side had broken off and was laying on the Protect-a-Tow shield. Anybody else ever had that happen?

On Monday I called NSA and a rep asked me to send pics of the problem and they would send me the parts to repair it! They told me to put a pin or bolt through the "emergency hole" and that it was safe to use going back home.
Thank goodness for their lifetime warranty!

Don't know why these pics are sideways!

Had one for maybe 4 or 5 years on two different jeeps, have to keep an eye out for that.

I do grease it once a year, but I don't think that's related.

On a side note, when I've had to call or email (I was after custom brackets for an aftermarket bumper), they're great people to deal with.

Looking at the photos I'm not sure what broke - can you describe the failure for us? Maybe a side-by-side photo of the old and the replacement parts would help, along with a description of how you install it...

They sent me a replacement bolt/pin that goes through the towbar arm, but no information on how to replace it!

I'll call them Monday for more info!

I talked with Jess at NSA yesterday and he walked me through the replacement process, which is really very simple. Only problem is, they sent me the wrong pin and he can't understand why it won't fit! I've got to remove the entire arm and send it to them! I'm leaving today for a short trip and will be sending it next week. In the meantime, putting the bolt through the emergency hole locks the arm in place so I can use it temporarily. Jess is a really nice guy to work with!

I sent the towbar arm back to NSA RV Products and they rebuilt it, no charge! Got it back yesterday and will be installing it today. They really give great service and the lifetime warranty is nice!

I had never noticed those holes in the outer sleeve that are marked "Emergency Pin Hole". Putting a 3/8" bolt through the hole when the arm is extended locks it in place. That's an added safety that I will be using from now on just in case one of the locking arm pins break, which could potentially let the arm separate completely.

I don't think they intend us to use the emergency pins all the time, they're emergency after all.

It might be worth checking with NSA first. Maybe there's no downside to using them, not sure, other than a bit more inconvenient of course

A friend of mine has the same tow bar and had a similar failure. Since then he always puts a pin in the emergency holes when hitting the road. I bought their Hurcules tow bar two years ago and I love it. It is bulletproof. I did have to make one adjustment to it because the arms would not lock in place without a struggle when hooking up. Since the adjustment it has worked flawlessly.

Hi Steve! I did ask NSA tech support about that. They said no problem if I didn't mind the extra time to put the bolts in and remove them at the destination.

Curious, how did you send it? Make a box? No box? Did they pay the shipping?
