Road Grime

So what product and methods do you use to clean off the cables, air lines, electric lines and the front of your toad? I prefer coiled cables and lines but when it comes to cleaning them after a hard pull or long couple of trips = GAG. And especially a pain when you mistakenly get the coiled cable or line twisted!

Road Grime

I used to carefully hit them with soap and my pressure washer (still connected). Then ran across this and it has practically eliminated the accumulation of grime from tow-bars, Toad, Cables and Lines and as a bonus, the back of the motorhome. Longest was 1700 mile round trip Georgia/Texas and I was amazed. Note that the mesh is below everything and yes, it gets a good cleaning after a long trip, but much easier that it was before.

No matter what you do a toad is gonna get dirty. If it hasn't rain for several days/weeks roads will be very dirty. Washing a lot of dirt is no harder than a little.
And a full width mud flap can flip up stones, and not stop dirt.

Pulled our little Subaru Crosstrek over 40,000 miles now. Up n back to Alaska via Alcan, across Usa twice thru 42 of the lower 48.
Snowy interstates thru Colorado, and as recently as this past Sat/Sun thru grime covered interstate enroute home to Va from Fla. Had so much crud on the windows that I couldn't see out of them till they were cleaned.
Toad has so many rock chips/front bumper dings/scratches I gave up trying to repair them.
Good washing and washing of all cables, tow bar, wireing harness, and she's good to go on another trip. Coiled cables and wireing harness get a 303 treatment, tow bar gets a simple spray down.
Never have worried about keeping the toad "pristeen".

Thanks for the info. I have looked at this before and wondered how it would work with a rear exhaust. My pipe exits on the right to the rear of the coach I looks like it would interfere. Don't suppose you could cut a hole in the mesh? Don't really want to alter what I have so have stayed with the system we currently use which is a RoadMaster three piece shield which actually seems to work pretty well. Also wondered how much trouble is it to put this system in the bag and store it?

This may work very well. I just need to get the oil and grease off the parts before I put them in the bag I store them in. If I don't then the bag also has to be cleaned.

Thanks for the info

When I replace the mesh, I am going to get it a bit wider at the Toad end. I am told they will make it to your deminsions. TBD I guess.Click image for larger version

When I get near my destination, I find a 25 cent car wash and pressure wash the tow bar, cables, etc.

Just tow a Wrangler. They're supposed to be dirty and grungy. The dirtier and muddier the better.

Protect-a-Tow
We use the Protect A Tow also and it does help keep everything above it cleaner. We also spread our Protect A Tow out onto a table at our campsites to allow any rain we get to rinse off the mesh. We've found that a good rain does a good job on the mesh, but admittedly it only works if we get an all day soaker.
