Purchased the RviBrake a couple of months ago when having toad set up. First time I used it, I got a "dead battery" message on remote display. Found out the 12vt outlet in the dash of my 2012 Subaru was on a 10amp fuse and it was blown. I called RviBrake and was told that the unit should only draw around 8 amps max. Outlet in jockey box is on a 20 amp fuse so I decided to use that one. Now a couple of months later, I just returned from 1000 mile trip down the Oregon coast. Four or five times while driving, got the "dead battery" message again. Each time when I had a chance to stop, I would check small light on the units power plug and it was still lit. I would unplug it, plug it back in push the "auto start" button and everything would be fine for a 100 miles or so, then same problem. Called RviBrake again and their solution was to wire 12vt outlet directly to battery and they supplied their kit free. Haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'm hoping it solves the issue. I do like the size, weight of unit but, it needs to prove that it can work as advertised.

I bought an early copy of the brake and had similar issues. I would loose communication between the brake and the remote. RVI sent me a longer antenna. It continued. Then they said it was a programming issue and sent me a new brake unit. It seemed like I could push the auto start button and re-initialize the brake and it would work for a while but would go out again. Unfortunately, the button I had to push was on the brake in the toad and not in the motorhome. I finally sent it back.

Ditto on everything you said. They sent me a "new" unit too but I still had problems with the thing losing comms and sometimes showing that the toad's brake was still engaged. Made me wonder if the thing was really working!

Did you get any grief when you sent it back?

I have had mine for a couple of months. Only used it for about 1000 miles so far and it seems to work just fine. I have had the Lost Communication message a couple of times but it only lasts a few seconds. They sent me the additional antenna (free) but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I bought mine with a money back guaranty and had been in contact with Dan Decker about the problems I was having. He took it back with no problem and I did get my money back in a timely manner.
