We have just finished setting up our 1997 Saturn SW2 for towing and have towed it about 100 miles. We carefully followed the Owners Manual instructions to put the car in neutral and have the key in the accessory position. However, we just had to rebuild the transmission. It started to refuse to go into reverse. Any comments or suggestions?

Should not be as a result of towing. You did it right; it's got to be unrelated. I have a 1997 L2 & towing it now for the eight year without a problem. You did not say if you were the first owner of the Saturn. I seem to recall somewhere a mention of the shifter giving some problems, not sure what model.

First of all, welcome to irv2, dveasey.

As far as towing your saturn, does yours require that two fuses be removed from under the hood? My 2000 LS does. I had asked once what would happen if I didnt, and didnt get a positive answer. However, I do believe something regarding the tranny was part of their vague answer.

Welcome to the forum dveasey! and thanks for the reassurance. My owners manual makes it seem so simple, but I had heard elsewhere that some people pull fuses. I have only had the Saturn for about a year,so I have no idea how it may have been treated in the past. That's the hazard of used cars LOL.
ISLAPP, about the fuses; I rack up mileage while towing. I thought that was why fuses are pulled in some cars -- so that the odometer doesn't move? If the tranny is involved, surely the Saturn folks would be more forthcoming in their manual.
