Question Smart car for Toad? Who has a Smart toad?

I searched this forum for "Smart Car Toad" but did not get any 'hits'

My questions on this subject are:

1. What is the newest Smart for 2 Cabrio that can be towed 4 down ( I think I have seen comments that the latest models cannot be towed 4 down)
2. Since the car weighs less than 2000 pounds is it necessary to have braking in the car while towing?
3. Where can I get a base plate and appropriate tow bar?

A Google search for "smart car motorhome lift"
Shows a few hanging off the back. Assuming the hitch tongue will support the weight that could work.

I believe that the 2015 model year is when they changed so that they can't be towed 4 down.

That depends on your home state regulations. Some states require brakes on anything over 1500 lbs while others have a higher limit.

Both Blue Ox and Roadmaster make base plates for the smart, and both also have the appropriate tow bar to go with their base plate.

It is good practice to ALWAYS have a braking system in a toad. The requirements of the state you're traveling through (or Canada) are what govern.
Besides that, a breakaway system is always a good idea. Ask your insurance company if they'll cover what the toad hits if you don't have one.
