Smart tow

Maybe a heads up. On a long trip towing the smart. The hood keeps blowing off. Rough roads and HIGH cross winds. Thankfully didn’t loose it, there is a strap that retains it. So, has this been a problem and that was the factory fix? One corner has some road rash, and several scrapes. A little bit of duck tape in the beginning, but now a LOT till I get back home. One of the 2 latches is now gone. Drilled a few hidden holes and used some long cable ties and think it’s pretty secure.

I had same thing happen to me, Smart was on trailer. I found replacement latches on internet, the are pretty reasonable, just remember to purchase the one for the correct side. I just put the hood inside the Smart by removing single screw on strip. I think I got the parts from either Rock Auto or Zoro

OP again. Reading more about this, it seems to b a common problem. Till we get back home, I’ve used 2 long zip ties thru some drilled holes in the underside to keep it closed, and several more strips of duct tape. Hood locking pins will be installed. Good video on utube
