SunPass/EZPass with toad??

What is the correct way to do this? I have a transponder in both rv and toad. Am I getting double dinged?

EZ Pass issued 2 separate transponders to us - 1 for when it is MH only, a different one when we are towing.

If we are towing, we remove the Jeep transponder, putting it in the silver bag they provide to prevent it from being read, and then make sure to have the correct transponder in the MH, with the other in a silver bag.

To make it easier to remember, we put the silver bag in the jeep with the instructions for switching to neutral - which I always use to be sure I don't miss any steps.

EZPass requires you to register your RV as it is by itself.
My 2007 Ellipse did not have a tag axle, it was a Class 4
My 2020 Horizon has a tag axle, I had to get a new transponder and register as a Class 5.
The TOAD doesn’t need a transponder while you are towing it.
Ez Pass will automatically charge you for your Class.
The motorhome has a commercial transponder and requires $100 replenishments once below $30 balance

The TOAD needs a transponder if you are driving it by itself.
That would be a regular passenger car unit.
The car requires $30 replenishment once below $10 balance

Probably, although we've towed through the terminals having forgot to put away the toad's pass and not been double charged. No idea what the technical aspects are. Went through Ohio a couple weeks ago and the bar stayed up long enough to get the toad through and didn't get double charged.

EZ Pass asked if I always had a toad when traveling with the MH, which is what we do. So, MH with 2 axles and toad with 2 axles, they programmed the transponder to a 4 axle vehicle and told me to place the toad’s transponder in the silver bag. I only get charged once as a 4 axle vehicle.

EZ Pass has different rules in different states. You have to check your own.

Probably the best answer so far.

The OP mentioned Sun Pass which also has different rules

Thanks for the replies. I guess it isn't that simple. Looking at my last trip I am only seeing one charge, but it could be combined, because the specific toll plazas are not familiar to me so I don't know the fee. For example, SR528 BCHLINE WEST MAIN WB MP6 shows as a $4.55 charge, but not knowing the toll fee here, it is hard to figure if I was overcharged. Also, the car is so close to the MH that I wonder if it picks it up? I will try to find one of those foil bags and do that until I figure it out. I thought about only having one and moving it between, but I will never remember that! LOL

Have one on the RV and on the toad (NC EZPass). Have never been double charged when on Florida turnpikes. Also have Oklahoma Pike Pass on the RV and it is registered as RV with toad.

Here is an interesting update.
I put the wrong transponder ( my Car Transponder) in my RV this yr.
Had to pay a toll going down to the Keys and back up.
I used my car's transponder and they charged the correct Class 5 fee on the Florida Toll Road

I only have one pass and use it in the RV when towing or not. Also use it in the car.

Sometimes we forget it in the RV and use the car without it. They always get the rate right and since it's listed for the car, get that by the plate number and charge my account..
