Swapping auto-lock hubs

DW and I have targeted a Samurai/Tracker/Sidekick 4x4 for our next Toad. We both like the little buggers and I really like the 2300 lb curb weight. We've found quite a few for sale in our area that are reasonably priced and in pretty good shape.

But here's the rub - according to the official Suzuki book these guys tow 4-down just fine as long as they have MANUAL hubs but most of what I'm finding for sale have the auto-locking front hubs. A feature for day-to-day driving I suppose but a deal killer for 4-down towing - period.

Is it possible, and if so how involved is it to convert one of these bad boys to manual hubs?

I'd really like to pull the trigger but most of what we've seen for sale with manual hubs have been radically modified to full-on rock crawlers, which is cool, but not what we are looking for.

Any help would be most appreciated

Unbolt the autos, bolt on the manuals. BTDT, found a set of mans for $50 online.

Enjoy your SideTracker.
