Lots of good advise, you can never have too many lights. I towed my Saturn Vue on a Acme E-Z tow dolly from New Jersey to Billings Montana, to New York state and this past February down to Florida. No problems the Acme dolly is superior and cost less than some of the others. Take your time, check the straps when you stop for a break.etc. Enjoy the ride

Changing Lanes

I just bought a used American Car Dolly with electric brakes and swivel. Took a local maiden voyage around the neighborhood just to get a feel for it as I've never towed anything with my RV.

The one thing I'm VERY concerned about as we prepare to leave for Yellowstone is I cannot see the end of the towed so I'm wondering what to do when I have to change lanes. I have no idea how much room I need. What do others do in this situation?

We depend on the rear view camera.

Hi Sarah! One thing that I have to continually tell myself is that the toad will follow in my tracks. I do not have a backup camera and I cannot feel my little car back there at all. I have to look as I turn a corner just to make sure it is still there. One other thing I have learned is that if it doesn't feel right, CHECK IT OUT! Lots of things that shouldn't happen, have happened. I check my connections and safety chains at every stop. I also open the door and check inside my toad to make sure everything is positioned as it should be and there are no unseen problems. In 6 years of towing I have had things go wrong, but so far (knock on wood) nothing major has happened.

Lane Changes

Even with a rear view (backup) camera, depth perception is tricky, it is a long way back there with a 35 ft. RV, followed by a hitch and a 18 ft car. Several things I do to add caution to the mix are (1) use magnetic mount turn signals on the Toad so drivers back there can see what I'm trying to do. (2) minimize tight right turns as much as possible due to the swing of the Toad (3) take my time traveling and not pass people unless absolutely necessary. In the course of a trip, a driver going a few miles per hour slower than I would like is no big deal, I simply slow down too. In larger cities and heavy traffic, I tend to use the second lane from the right to avoid all of the entering/exiting traffic in the right lane. Caution is the key.

Well we returned yesterday from OBX as it was our first time with the toad. I have to say i was very nervous when we left 2 weeks ago. Then about 10 miles of traveling i forgot it was even back there! I will never leave the house without the toad. The only problem i encountered was getting fuel at one point. You dont realize how inconvenient some gas stations are until you have a 38' MH with the toad on the dolly. We did have the camera on the entire time so that did help a bunch. I wanted to say thanks to all. The advice was great! No longer have any worries when taking the toad.
