Tire choice for Mini

My Mini like many of them, came with run-flat tires and like most owners, I don't care for them all that much. Of course there's an obvious advantage having them on a toad but I also drive that car a lot and vigorously too and would prefer a quieter and less harsh tire.

Do anyone else use run-flats on their toad and if so, which ones?

I am just setting up a 2014 Cooper S as a tow vehicle and the first thing i did after getting the car is to remove those horrid run flat tires. They are so hard riding on a Mini. My Audi has them and they are so much better. the combo of a Mini and the run flats is horrible. I put on Continental DWS non run flats and its a significant difference. Did the same on a previous Mini. What you will have to contend with is keeping a spare tire in the motorhome in case you get a flat. I am willing to run around without a spare in the car, just not when towing it.

I ditched the run flats for a pair of Firestone Firehawk 500s. As for a spare, my Mini is a Clubman which has space for a compact spare which I purchased right after the car. If I didn't use the car so much, I think the run flats would be convenient when using the car as a toad as you can wait until it's convenient to find a place to change a tire.

I hear that

We just bought a mini to use as our dinghy. And man those run flat tires are noisy and stiff. We will probably change them out eventually but they’re brand new so I think we’ll put up with it for now. But they’re definitely going bye bye when the time comes to replace them.

We dropped the run-flats for “regular” tires and carry a donut spare for our Mini. We use Discount Tire for our tire purchases as they are in a lot of locations and offer a road hazard warranty with the tires. Currently running Nitto’s on ours. It actually goes in for a free rotate and balance tomorrow.

I took off the run flats and am now running Firestone Firehawk 500s and love them. The car is whisper quiet now, much quieter than my wife's CRV.

The cooper S hardtop model does not have a space for a spare so i carry mine in the MH storage bay. I am not an experienced tower of a TOAD so didn't fancy towing with a dead run flat if that happened.
