Toad Brake Technique

When using a toad brake such as the RVI Brake that is designed to push with enough force to operate the brakes without the power assist, do you pump the brake before starting off to bleed the vacuum assist so that the first few brakings will not be overly aggressive?

All will be explained in the "aux. brake installation/set up " portion of the manual, you get with your purchase .
My old Roadmaster, pumps the pedal when first connected three times.
Other systems may vary.

Blue Ox Patriot does the same thing. Pumps the brake three times when setting up.

I understand about the system pumping the pedal during set-up. My Ford Edge needs to be started and allowed to run for 5 minutes every six hours. If towing for a long day, or for several days without being unhooked, I'll be refilling the vacuum assist on the car but not necessarily performing the set-up again on the brake controller. Or is that actually what folks do to handle this situation?

100% agree. The Blue Ox Patriot instructions advise that you need to go through the set-up each time you restart the toad.

I'd think that , re-running the set up would be the quickest and easiest , because i don't believe you can press the brake pedal with the aux brake attached ; but then I've never tried.

Yeah, that makes logical sense.

Thanks for all the replies.

With the RVI2, all I have to do is push the auto position button three times to bleed off any vacuum in the brakes. I only have to do it once since the Jeep doesn't have to be restarted during tow, but that should be all you have to do each time after you run the vehicle.
