TOAD brakes squealing after towing.

We bought a cheap light 2007 Toyota Yaris TOAD in 2021, it is equipped a Roadmaster Evenbrake 9400 braking system and after each time we have towed it more than about a hundred miles in a day, I have noticed that the brakes will tend to squeal when we drive it around, this squealing goes away after a couple of days of normal driving, and only comes back after it serves TOAD duty again. This happens even when the EvenBrake is set on its lowest braking force and lowest sensitivity.

My only guess is that the level of braking force is strong enough, and goes on long enough to glaze the brake rotors while it is being towed.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?

Ike

p.s. I am not overly concerned about excess brake wear on the Yaris as brake pads and rotors for it are relatively cheap and easy to change.

I am not familiar with the Evenbrake but would be checking for brake drag with a laser thermometer after a few miles. could be the braking unit or sticking caliper.

Hope your breakaway system is working correctly.

I am guessing the brakes are getting glaze and you have your brake gain set to soft! Turn up the brake gain until you can feel the truck giving a pull on the MH , then back it off just a little. I would bet your brake noise is gone.

The Evenbrake has 2 settings, Force and Sensitivity each with 3 levels, currently I have them both set to minimum. I am assuming gain would be similar to the sensitivity setting?

Your not concerned about pads and rotors but how about fire? If brakes are staying on you have a good chance of burning down the house so to speak.

Brakes are not staying on for prolonged periods of time, as the Even Brake has an in cab receiver that shows braking activity, and the majority of the time the TOAD braking stops within a fraction of a second of the motorhome braking.

Sounds like they are staying on long enough to glaze pads and premature wear out of pads.

Multiple light brake applications will cause brake glazing, and squealing.

If the squealing goes away fairly soon after you start driving your toad, it's because you are applying the brake harder than your braking system while you're towing.

If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it. Just do a couple of hard stops from 50 down to 20 mph after towing for any length of time. Fixed.
