This forum has always been a BIG help in all questions asked, thank you.

My current project is setting up my toad. I've got a 40" diesel with air brakes. 2000 Country Coach Intrigue,The toad is a Ford Edge (2014) I'm planning on flat towing it.

I want to get the Blue Ox Patriot 3. My question is, do I need an AIR supplemental braking system or will this work?

I'd really like to buy all the stuff (tow bar, Base plate,wiring system etc) in one place I was thinking Etrailer would be a one stop shop so to speak. Any reviews in Etrailer?

So far, I've identified that I will need:
Demco base plate
Demco Excail-Bar III tow bar
Blue Ox Patriot 3
wiring system for the toad

Am I missing anything?

Any help would be appreciated

With your diesel and air brakes you may want to consider the AF1 system. Once installed it is mostly invisible and is quick to hook up.

Personally, I would go with AF1 or M&G Engineering system over the Blue Ox Patriot 3. To hook up my toad all I have to do is connect one quick connect air line and I'm done.

E Trailer is a good company. No complaints here. They have great support and videos.

If your not going to be moving it from car to car i like the m&g system simple install

I use the Roadmaster BrakeMaster system and I'm happy with it. I stumbled upon mine when responding to a Craigslist ad for a Demco Excalibar. The gentleman selling the tow bar had most of the bits for the BrakeMaster(mainly the slave cylinder and breakaway tank) in the bed of his truck. Etrailer helped me with the missing parts. My vote is for the NSA brake buddy. No air lines to mess with. Simple to install. If you want to pull your toad behind something else it's easy to do. Do not get the brake buddy elite. It doesn't pivot like say the roadmaster all terrain. Just had it installed on our 2020 jeep Cherokee trailhawk.

With your air brake RV, you might want to consider the M&G braking system. It is easy to install and quick to hook up, only the air line. We like ours and we think it makes sense because as soon as you hit the brakes on the RV, the air line also hits the brakes on the toad.
