This question comes up all the time. Many tell how they rent wherever they go. I've been RVing for 50+ years and the places we go, State and County Parks, National Parks and places along the Oregon Coast (as an example) do not offer rentals.

A couple of years ago, it was during Covid, we towed our boat to the Sacramento Delta for a week. We had more people in our group than cars to get to the marina each day. I called several rental car companies in Lodi, California, a pretty good size city (70000 residents). The only way we could get a rental was get a ride to the rental shop and at the end of the week get a ride back from there. Between making the appointment and getting and returning the vehicle, it took a half day to pick up and two hours to drop off.

Consequently, many don't plan the extra days required, campsite fees and wasted time to get a car and return it. If you don't mind waiting, maybe renting is for you.

We've done with and without the toad. We always reserve a rental in advance if we're getting one and just stop by on the way in to get it. They don't always have a conducive parking lot, so check it out on the satellite view on Google maps first to see where to park your rig. It's been mostly miss on them picking you up lately, but you can always uber over to pick up your rental if you won't need it right away.

We did the rental thing for two years. It was a hassle. First, you’re at the mercy of the rental car agency. If they don’t have anyone to pick you up, you have to wait. Second, we tried driving to the rental place to pick the car up. Most of their parking lots are too small for a motor home. We then did the dolly thing for 4 years. Now we flat tow - the best way in my opinion.

We have done both, if we are going to an 'event' for a day or two we will either forego a car at all or we will rent if there is an agency nearby. We are heading to FL in a few weeks, to get the Diamond Shield removed and then get a window repaired/replaced. We are not towing a vehicle since we are not vacationing but we are getting work done on the MH and most stops are only a day or two, but we did rent a car in Ft. Myers while we are there a few days.

I have a toad, but on one occasion we rented at the destination. We planned on towing a UHaul trailer home, and needed local transportation. In your case, rent. Some advised to call ahead, which is sound advice.
Select a toad without the pressure of a pending trip.
On all of our 'normal' travels, we tow, much preferring our own car, availability, etc. Also, most of our trips involve too many stops, some unplanned, and too short for convenient rentals.

I just checked to see how much in Tallahassee, Fl and it is $70/day for Enterprise.
So it varies depending on where you rent.

...IF they have enough employees at that office; and IF they are not too busy to send someone out; and IF it won't take them too much time to do it; and so on.

We have been traveling in our 34ft Moho without a toad for the last two years. This Summer we purchased our toad and have yet to take it on a trip ..... but it sure will help to get us to our maintenance facility.

Enterprise is likely the goto solution. We recently rented the only car we have used for our Moho travels from Enterprise. We reserved it about a week in advance. When we arrived at the agency for pickup - they did not pickup/deliver as not enough staff - the office was closed. Took about 30 minutes to open. Several folks had to wait a few days to get a car - there were only three there - a Corrolla, a Dodge truck and an SUV. We wanted/reserved a Chevy, but the Corolla worked well for us. Had to wait for it to be washed.

So - you may have to compromise a bit.
