No problems towing here. Both 2016, one AWD and the other FWD. both in 4down.

Are you thinking of getting one as a toad?

We've towed four down our 2015 Explorer several thousand miles with nary a problem.

Well, except when the 12 volt line to the battery didn't connect and ran the battery dead. See we have to leave the ignition on and the trans in neutral. That's usually not a problem if the 12 volt line connects properly.

To solve this I purchased one of those portable charge packs and keep it in the vehicle all the time just in case.

We started having goofy transmission problems on our 13 Explorer. Convinced it was from towing. We tow a Grand Cherokee now.

2014 Explorer Sport AWD here. Probably 20,000 towed miles, no issues with a 12v charge line and trickle charger installed.

Where can I find a charger and can I install it myself?

I donít see why you couldnít install it yourself if youíre at all handy. Mine is from here: https://rvibrake.com/products/towed-...ant=8804388741

So I'm interested. What advantage does this give me over just having a 12 volt line to the battery? That's working OK.

Thanks Ron, I don't know either. My 12 volt line is also fused. The only trouble I have had is if the cord isn't plugged in properly and isn't providing 12 volt to the battery.

What I do have is a portable battery pack that I purchased just for that problem. I keep it charged and with the toad all the time. If the battery is dead we simply jump start it.

I did work on the plug and we haven't had a problem lately.

Blew the fuse once & killed the battery. There IS a ďcuteĒ green light on the charger to show itís on and working.
