Toad not charging

I have a problem with my 2016 GMC Canyon not charging while towing. I have 12.7 volts at the battery, I have 13.6 volts coming from the motorhome and continues to the end of the line at the battery. The battery voltage does not change when connected. After 2 days of towing the battery needs to be jump started. I do disconnect the power cord when stopped for the night. My question is why doesn’t the battery accept the charge from the motorhome?

Do you have a good ground between the coach and the toad?
Where are you measuring 13.6 vdc at? The red wire at the positive terminal of the toad battery?

Could be charge is not reaching the toad battery, OR, could be that power consumption by the toad exceeds charge from motorhome.

Are you following the "what to do to tow" instructions for your vehicle? What is the draw when towing?

We are following the procedure in the owners manual. I have good Voltage available to the battery. I will try a new ground this weekend and see if it makes a difference.

The 13.6 v is at the end of the red wire when I disconnect it from the battery. I will try a new ground and see if that makes a difference.

I tow a 2015 Colorado same as GMC. The towing instructions clearly states to disconnect the battery when towing. I have a disconnect switch on mine. The reason for battery disconnect is to turn off power so the steer by wire feature will not activate. If you leave power connected the steering will try to correct the steer and therefore drain battery. Happy travels.

Do you have a picture of this disconnect? The procedure in the manual states to disconnect the ground.

This disconnect then prevents any charging from the motor home as well? Or do you run a separate ground from the motor home?

If you use a battery disconnect, you shouldn't need to charge the battery. There won't be any drain on it

Possibly. Will depend on what auxiliary braking system they have. Many are 12 VDC.

For additional background on using the GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado as a TOAD, try this website:

https://www.coloradofans.com/

I think the threads on that forum tend to use the terms "flat towing" or "dinghy" as opposed to TOAD. DINGHY is 6 letters, searches on 3-4 letters like TOAD often do not work.

Thank you for the link. Coincidentally I was there doing some reading today. I have ordered a disconnect and will install it and curing my issue. Thanks for the help.
