If it were me, I would pick up a pair of wheel stops like Harbor Freight sells and take everything to a scale. With trial and error find out exactly where your CR-V should sit on the trailer to get the correct weights on the hitch. It's best to have a minimum of 10% of the load on the hitch for stability(assuming your MH has that capacity). I have a ball hitch that has a scale in it, so I know just where to have my Jeep sit and then I installed the wheel stops for the front wheels. Get it right with a scale the first time and you can have it right everytime.

While it was hooked up we pulled a Nissan Rogue onto it, which is roughly the same size as our CR-V. It fit perfect, with a foot or so of room in the front.

I have my trailer brake hooked up and mounted, and I have a 6" drop ball carrier, which should put me about dead level based on tape measurements. And I have four extra EezTire sensors on the way. I also have tie down straps for the CR-V tires.

What am I missing or need that I haven't thought of yet? There has to be something I'm forgetting.

Our plan is to drive the MH and CR-V to pick it up, then load the CR-V and drive home (100 miles) just to make sure everything works as intended. We have a longer trip planned for early April, so this is kind of a shake-down cruise for the trailer.
I would expect your CR-V plus the trailer will be pushing your 500lb tongue weight rating. Or exceeding it. So, if your handling suffers, I'd consider an equalizing hitch. But I would wait to make that call until after your shakedown run. Good on you for using wheel straps to tie down your load--that's a very secure way to do it.

Crasher: that was my plan when I was looking at a longer trailer, but with the 16' I don't really have a lot of room to play with. If I pull on just far enough to close the tail ramp the weight will be as far back as possible.

DirtRider: I am concerned about the tongue weight. I don't have a scale but plan to buy or borrow one before I go pick it up. My other option would be to back the CR-V onto the trailer so that the engine weight is more over the rear trailer axle. But yes, that's what the shakedown is for.

Thanks!
