Thanks Joe, I did pretty much what you did and wrapped a cable around part of the MH tow apparatus and attached the break away cable to that.
I changed the connectors from the supplied carabiner type to a snap shackle. Much easier to disconnect. Might be important if you needed to disconnect in a hurry.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about protecting the tow. I don't think the protect a tow type arrangement is going to work.

What's the problem with the Protect-A-Tow?

Hi Joe, the protect a tow will sit right under my exhaust. See picture on post 25. I hope I'm wrong, I like the under the tow bar net type of protection.

Yup, you're right! What a shame! Is it possible to turn that exhaust upward or out to the right with a little upward angle?

I've followed this thread with a bit of interest. Had the lower front of my prior towed messed up pretty bad last year when we went through about 20 miles of complete road construction hell in Wyoming. They were resurfacing the road and tiny bits of gravel were flying everywhere. In my entire driving life (and there are fewer years before me than there are behind me) I'd never been in anything like it for such a long stretch of road. Fortunately it did not really hit the metal...just the lower plastic bits.

My concern would be on the durability of these kinds of shields...if they are flexible then it would seem to me they could quickly be degraded in similar conditions.

Experience on this?

I like many others have tried different things and have concluded the best we can hope for dealing with debris is knock it to the ground as soon as you can.
I installed a second set of mud flaps about "24 back from the oem mounted mud flaps. No more rocks and the engine compartment seems to stay cleaner.

I'm not sure how long I have been using the shield since I failed to record it in my maintenance book as I normally do. I would say it's been about 3 years, and I only have one or two very small holes in it. I can patch those with scraps of the original mesh when I need to. For that reason I would not be concerned with the durability considering the protection it will give you!

MH is in storage so I'll take a look when I use it next. I'm not excited about turning the exhaust in anyway that it could collect water.

Joe I use the same Ready Brute Elite tow bar as you. Is there a reason why you don't make one turn around each leg with each safety cable as mentioned in the manual? Or am I not seeing it right in your picture?

No, I don't do that. Just never could see any reason to. Maybe someone can educate me as to why this is necessary.

Yeah, you're right. I wasn't thinking about the water problem!

Maybe it could be turned to the right side. I don't think water would be a problem that way.

Joe, I won't try and educate you as I had to think long and hard about it myself. The only reason I can think of is that if a leg or both detaches from the Toad a loop around the leg would hold it up off the pavement and maybe save the tow bar. It only takes a second so I do it.

My tip use to point down like yours on a angle, I just turned it a bit, just so water won't run it it.......

Well that's interesting Palehorse. Attaching the screen material to the vanity mud flap sure makes sense. I would probably have to have the screen cut to size locally and have them sew in the pull string seams. That should get it low enough and with the exhaust pipe turned sideways the exhaust shouldn't bother the screen.

Thanks for the pictures.
