Question Toads with no steering unlock

Hi all
My Hyundai Veloster has push button start, electric power steering. and no steering lock or accessory setting. I can't seem to find a way to let the front wheels unlock and follow in a turn. They are being tugged around the corners. I know i'm missing something !

On my Chevrolet Colorado I have to disconnect the battery to disable the electric power steering. Hope this helps.

Try pressing the button without putting your foot on the brake. This may be similar to the ACC position in a traditional key ignition.

If that unlocks the steering, it will probably enable other things in the vehicle (radio, HVAC, etc.). Therefore, run a charge line from the tow to the toad.

On some Keyless systems it is the opening of the driver’s door with the ignition off that initiates the steering wheel lock. Try exiting the car with the engine running, then open the passenger door and shut the engine off. The wheel should remain unlocked until the drivers door is opened. That is how VWs work. Not sure about yours but it is easy to test.

There is some risk in this method. Such as the wheel will lock due to low battery voltage. Having a charge line is a must. They may be other triggers that will lock the wheel. Having a good understanding of how all the components are interrelated before using this method on your particular model and make. Is a must.

What does the owners manual say? Is it even towable?
