Tow bar angle
Based on what I read in the other sticky thread, sounds like 4" is about the max drop we want. I'm in that ballpark... what do you all think, keep it direct like this or get a 3" drop adapter?

Do you have a quality toad proportionate braking system?

My Blue Ox bar instructions say that you should not have more than 3 inches difference between the two ends. I have seen worse than yours on the road. On one of my rigs I had to use a 6 inch drop hitch. I used a 10,000 lb sold metal drop and it worked well all thru Alaska and back to Minnesota.

What is the max allowable according to your tow bar manufacturer's installation instructions ?

Suppose the OP did nothing. What would the downforce on the hitch be when he is pulling that toad up a 7% grade?

It's a Roadmaster Nighthawk bar, the manual says the safe zone is +/- 3"
I'll get a 4" drop, that should level it out within an inch.
To the braking question, I plan to grab the RVI Brake 3 portable system with the charger and wireless breakaway.

This may not be the long-term TOAD, hoping someday to get either a wrangler or bronco.

Truck-Toad weighs 7500lbs.. I bet there's an equation around somewhere that would answer that

That would be the thing to do (4" drop)! Enjoy!

I'd be happy with a 2" drop. Slightly low on the toad end is OK by me and I prefer to keep any drop-hitch to a minimum.
I'm nervous if the toad end is high, giving the toad the opportunity to climb over the tow bar if a panic stop is every needed. I was in a panic stop situation once with a level tow bar and the tow bar actually bent a little from the force.

Maybe consider a dual receiver with a 2” and 4” options.

Not worth the effort. Just get it within the manufacturers guidelines.

Thinking it would be 525# on that 7% grade. Now if the toad brake is set too hard and the entire rig has to be braked, which way will it go?

Be safe, just get it within 2" and forget it. I would use a good anti-rattler, they are well worth their cheap cost. Use 2 of them, one at each slip-in joint.

I had a second receiver welded to the underside of the OEM receiver. It drops you 3" and makes life much simpler. No need for drop down hitches that wiggle and bang.
Just have a muffler or hitch shop add the second receiver and plate it.
