We had a '97 Jeep GC with the Quadratrack. Great toad, terrible gas mileage though. Bought the wife a '08 Civic, kept the '05 Odyssey and sold the Jeep for $750. Naturally a while before the gas guzzler credit was announced!
I think we'll look at a CR-V for the next vehicle.

Thanks for the kudos Now to explain my "food-fight" comment. I'm taking issue with this -and- many other threads about the same topic - Lets review:
The first reply opens the thread with
" The dolly is nothing but a pain in the butt"
At the bottom of my first page:
"I have opinions...You Have Facts...Your Car...Your MH...Your money..."
By post 20, we're into personal comments with:
"Gee, you are real pessimistic."
And this thread is still SHORT . As a lurker for a long time, I read LOTS of these threads while researching for my set-up and it's just wierd. While the OP simply asks for opinions, this topic especially seems to always get people upset if they don't like anothers opinion.
So, to get back on topic...totally agree that both, flat tow and dolly tow have pros and cons. One is not better than the other...they are just different.

I have the Demco KarKaddy 460SS dolly which I think is the best one you can get (probably the most expensive to). It is easy to load and tow. If my car was 4 down towable that is the way I would go. It just seems like it would be easier. So I think both methods are good. it just depends on what your situation is when you start out.

I was looking for a thread like this. Interesting about the problems with the tow dollys and turning radius. Maybe they need a longer tongue for the RV. Still on the fence about which way to go. Hate the idea of putting almost as much money into towing/stopping a toad as the darn thing costs.

Wrangler. 4 down. Xfer case in N, trans in P, lock and go. And then go off-road to see what regular tourists do not.

I have been towing with a towmaster dolly for the last 3 years. Not bad, surge brakes, steerable wheels, towed three different cars. It worked well. Just got a car I am going to keep for a while and is towable four down so have completed the transistion. A blue ox tow bar was already on my new to me motor home so no cost there, bought a base plate here on IRV 2 for $200, installed for another $250. Brake system part of the deal with the new motor home so I am now towing four down. Have only gone a couple of times since new system in place but like it. It is easier to hook up than the dolly and don't have to haul the dolly around, although I used to take the car off the dolly then hook the dolly onto the car and tow it where it needed to go. I could have kept towing with the dolly and still have it in my back yard in case I want to go back, but, so far, I like four down better.

The OP made his decision in August to tow 4 down and if anyone is interested they can refer to post #24.
Since the question has been answered I would ask those that are considering responding to this thread to instead begin a a draft, polish it up a bit over the next couple of days, and save it so it will be ready to go the next time we have another 4 down versus dolly thread.
I am sure that with a couple of days to refine the draft it will be brilliant and worth the wait.
