Can't speak for other brands but we had a KarKaddy SS and thought it was a very quality unit. Good Luck.

This is another vote for the Demco KarKaddy. The fold-up ramps and tongue have allowed us to park in much small spaces. And by folding the tongue back and storing the pin in the coach, I feel sure no one will drive off with the dolly. The KarKaddy also has steerable wheels (with a pin to keep them locked when towing with no car). The surge brakes have a lever that engages the brakes if the dolly separates from the coach. And yes, from expericence, you can get very wet putting on the straps especially in an Oregon rain storm.

Like I said it's a the Ford Chevy argument all over again. The clincher to me is Acme EZ Tow is the only tow dolly in the business that has surge DISC brakes, all welded construction, 80% or more manufactured in USA, 100 % assembled in USA., weighs 450# less than any other tow dolly sold in this country.

TomC is right on in my opinon. I have been using one for ten years and haven't had trouble with it except tights spots. DO NOT Back up. No brakes on it and have traveled in all the states.

The Master Tow Dolly weighs 450 pounds. So, if my math is correct that would make the Acme weightless. That would be quite the engineering feat.

One advantage of a tow dolly is less wear and tear on the toad. The EZ Tow is a great dolly, but since you are using the toads steering mechanism instead of a pivot pan,

We have the Roadmaster tow dolly with electric brakes and love it. One thing I was wondering is what kind of toad are you towing? We tow a VW Golf TDI and it so low to the ground that DH had to build some wood contraptions for to raise it up as he loaded it so we didn't take off the front low bumper.

I have the Acme EZE Tow Dolly and would recommend it. I have used one rented from U-Haul and did not like it (I don't know MFG). Ramps do not connect to the Acme, they just get placed in position for each use. I like to carry mine in the compartment with my shorepower cable rather then on the dolly and they take 15 seconds to put down & pick up.
As for the surge brakes, they work fine and they do have a breakaway lock if you take the time to connect it. There is a cable from the master cylinder that locks the brakes in case the dolly comes loose from the RV.
Here is a photo I just went out and took of mine and you can see the cable as well as the safety chains.

I hear that Minnesota does not allow the use of surge brakes. Does anyone know the truth of that statement?

Per Minn. State Statute 169.67 revised 2011, surge brakes meet the standard of the Statute.
For the purpose of this thread, it should be noted that dolly's are not specified.

Demco is offering disc brakes in the next 30 to 60 days. I have put an order in with my local dealer to replace my old Demco that is about 15 years old

That is one fancy dolly. I love the steering axle...means no pivot pan...means less weight .
MSRP for the 460SS is just under $3800...do the disc brarkes increase that price?
Even if it does, it's worth it becuse you can check brake wear and disc condition without any disassembly
