Tow Dolly Suggestions

We are new to the RV world. Just purchased a 2020 Precept 31ul and will be towing a Toyota Camry. Need suggestions to purchase a dolly.
Front wheel drive so flat tow is not an option.

A guy at a rv resort showed me his. Looks to be a good setup. He said they also deliver for the price, which seemed very acceptable to me. Comes with a spare as well.
There are other tow dollys and someone will, I'm sure, recommend them.

I bought a Stehl Tow dolly. Disk, surge brakes, LED lights.

Their website lists local dealers by zip code, so you can see them.

Picked it up in 2014 and after 40,000 miles it's going strong. Replaced tires and brake pads last year. All standard stuff.

I used a EZtow for 3-1/2 years, 30K+ miles until I went 4 down. Low profile and lighter than most so easy to move around when not connected.Worked great. Not much of a used market for them unfortunately, still sitting in the yard.

Don't buy pre 2008 Stehl TD's as they had metric drums and bearings and Stehl doesn't support them. Parts are very hard to find.

I wouldn't buy a drum brake dolly.

OK. I wouldn't buy another Stehl because of their lack of support for legacy products. Hope you fair better in a few years than I did with my Stehl.

I purchased a used Demco SS with disc brakes and steerable. It also folded up some for storage. No expert but seemed to be one of the best available and parts down to pre formed brake lines available. Just a heads up. Load your car, drive a few miles, then retighten straps that go over the wheels. They loosen up because the vehicle shifts. Messed up a new set of straps by dragging them until someone flagged me down.

I certainly agree this is the finest and most well built dolly out there. We've run the dickens out of ours coast to coast several times and to Alaska and back--- now bumping 90,000 miles.

But I am wondering if they are still in business? Last I heard he had shut down and I can not find them anymore on the internet?

Even if I could not buy a new American Car Dolly I'd beat the bushes trying to find a used one if I was in the market. They are fantastic.

Considering the comments about the American Car Dolly product, I tried to find them on the internet too and could not find anything. Assuming they are shut down. As I mentioned earlier, personally purchased a KarKaddy SS by Demco. Dug up a picture for comparison of other units out there. From what some say, a steerable dolly will track better than a stationary axle. Something else to consider.

You may have a consideration not yet mentioned. Your year and model appears to be on the Ford F-53 22,000 pound GVWR chassis.

Even if you have a 5,000 pound hitch installed, your unrestricted towing capacity is only 4,000 pounds.

That means you need to add the weight of the Camry when set up for towing (no people) plus the weight of the dolly and hope the total does not go over 4,000 pounds.

If the total does go over 4,000 pounds you can still tow it, but the motorhome itself must weigh less than 22,000 pounds when fully loaded with people, food, water, stuff, etc.

You did not specify the year and variant of the Camry and the 2022 has a "curb weight" between 3,300 lbs and 3,600 lbs. Other model years may be lighter, the same, or heavier. Details matter.

I know some dollies can weigh close to or over over 700 pounds and even the lightest ones weigh over 300 pounds.

It's good that you do not have the AWD Camry because only the FWD can be towed on a dolly, apparently. But that may depend on the model year of the Camry.

As far as I know, no Camry can be towed four-down.

In regards to American Car Dolly. I called the number for them and after ringing for quite awhile I got a voice mail from Gary. I don't know how old that message is, but he said to check out their website, of which cannot be found. So, regretfully, he may be out of business. That's too bad, because, with the two great rundowns here, he also got rave reviews on the net.
I also google earthed his address. Took a look around some and seen a tow dolly. Looks like he may have a shop there. Kind of hard to tell things sometimes.
I could of left a message, but I did not. But, I may call back again and hopefully get to talk to him and see what is going on. If he needs to retire for whatever reason, maybe he might have a son or someone to take over. That would be a good thing for sure.

Just because it’s front wheel drive (FWD) does not mean it can’t be flat towed. My old Chevy Sonic and HHR was FWD and flat towable. Check your manual. You maybe correct but never assume.
