Tow Hitch too high

I just bought a new to me. 2011 sightseer 37l. the tow bar is so high on the rear, im having trouble on how to hook up my blue ox. the tow bar would have to have a high low style drop hitch extender. it looks like to make it level the drop hitch would have to be approx. 12 to 14 inches. contacting blue ox they say no problem just don't have more then 4 inch diff in height

has any one used a high low type extender to tow a toad .

the biggest one i can find is a 10 inch drop

towing a 2014 1/2 ton Silverado 4800 lbs

I have a 6" drop receiver on our Jayco, pulling a Wrangler with Demco towbar and baseplate. No issues on ours, but you'll want an anti-rattle bracket (actually two) to take care of the extra slop. Also, if you get one with that much drop, I suppose you'll have a bit of extra length added to the setup.

I have used one on my mh wen I had a Chevy Sonic, not with my Wrangler. Please note that the towbar does not need to be fully level. There is a 3 “ safe zone.

Keep in mind that anytime you extend beyond the end of the original receiver hitch connection the tongue weight rating will change. Inserting a drop hitch extender will impact the tongue weight rating. When pulling a toad vehicle it may not be an impact but certainly if you where to connect a trailer, then yes the changed tongue weight will be an issue.

I have used a drop bar for about 3 years. Just changed motorhomes and had to go from 3" to 8". I shortened the stinger on the tow bar to make up for the difference in length, but I'm not sure that its necessary.

On two coaches, I had a second receiver welded on by a hitch shop to the underside of the OEM hitch. It drops the OEM hitch 4". Even if it's not enough of a drop, it allows you to use a much shorter drop.

I've seen this mentioned several times but if the receiver is a typical 2" receiver you should only be changing the height by about 2" by adding a second one directly below the first one.

My 2004 Southwind was high, needed a 4 inch drop I bought directly from Blue Ox for my Liberty.
I didn’t need a drop on my 2007 Ellipse or my 2020 Horizon.
I just switched to a 2022 Wrangler Sahara, with stock suspension, it’s perfectly level.

I would remeasure your drop.
It should be from the middle of the RV hitch to the Middle of the tabs on your baseplate.
I don’t think I ever seen one more than 8 inches.
I just can believe a 2014 Silverado would be that low.
Can you post a photo?

To be exact, it's 3.5" because of the lips on the receivers and a slight air gap. You can also plate it a little further apart. The main advantage is not extending further out the back and not having to deal with drop down hitches on many setups. You can even plate it a little further apart and move it back some under the OEM hitch.

I had to install an 8" drop hitch on my 2020 Vista to tow my 2006 Canyon with a blue ox tow bar. The drop hitch and the tow bar added about 10" to the distance between the MH and the truck. So I had a friend with a drill press drill a new hole in both the drop hitch and the tow bar to shorten the combination by the 10". I also added a pair of clamps to remove the play between the MH hitch, the drop hitch, and the tow bar.
