Tow Vehicle

We have been towing our 2014 5-door Hatchback Titanium Ford Focus behind our Winnebago since we bought it. It is in excellent condition, garage parked, Ingot silver metallic with a tow package installed. It has all the bells and whistles except for a navigation system. The only reason we are selling is we prefer a car that is a little higher for our old knees. This is a one owner car that we bought new. My husband is very strict about taking care of it. Can someone suggest a price we should ask for it? Trade in is not very desirable as they do not care about the tow package. We think it is an asset for RVers.

How many miles are on it?

What kind of braking system does it have?

Suggest you try placing in the classified here as that is the appropriate location. Try some pictures as most people want to see what they are considering.

Thanks, I will do that later today. I was just inquiring about an appropriate price to ask. Blue Book shows $5003 but they do not consider the tow bar and all the extras and the care that has been given. It is such a good car that we decided to keep it and sell to an individual who cares.

I should have been more clear. The brakes I was asking about aren't the car's brakes.

All cars that are towed have to have an aftermarket braking system that will apply the brakes when the car is being towed.

It will also apply the brakes if the car breaks away from the RV for some unknown reason.

You will soon see replies stating that it's not necessary to have a braking system. It's one of the hot topics on all RV forums.

Just looking on NADA and Autotrader, considering it is set up to tow, on here I would ask around $10,000. You can always come down from there.

We never had a break system because the car weighed less than 3000 pounds.

Base curb weight for your car is 3043 lbs.

Youd be better off removing the tow package and moving it to your next vehicle. Im also on a harley forum and harleys are known for aftermarket parts. One common theme, extras dont add any value to anyone but the person that put them on. They do nothing for resale and if you want any money back from them, sell them seperately. In my experience service records and care help get you book value, but if they werent available, id expect the price to be less firm.

Tell that to the folks that your runaway car is heading for.

I learned a long time ago that when I try to sell a used vehicle it is only valuable to me. I was at a car dealership about 2 weeks ago and they had 100's of used cars for sale. And there are dozens of dealerships in my area. So there is plenty of used cars you are competing against.

Isn't a vehicle that is being towed 4 down kinda beat up more than driving a car. I know the transmission is always suspect. I would not buy a car that was towed 4 down. But that is just me.

One good thing is it an upper trim level so that will help selling it.

Of course I could be all wet here but, not too many years ago, many states only required brakes after an actual towed weight of 3000lbs; today many have dropped that to 1500, and some (ca?) state that if the towed item is RATED at 1500 or greater, there must be brakes.
