Towable SUVs
Looking to get a new car to tow. Ideally something with a neutralizable 4wd transfer case so we wont need to deal with transmission lube pumps or stopping to cycle the gears or having speed/distance restrictions etc.
I know jeeps are known for this, we've owned and towed two jeeps and they tow well but wernt very happy about the overall quality/reliability of jeeps.
Looking for a nice towable SUV that can be towed without heavy modifications (other than the base plate etc. of course), around 2015ish or newer.
Have been looking at some GMC Yukons, as they have a neutralizable transfer case, but looking for some suggestions to see what other options might be for nice tow cars, maybe seeing what others have.
Thanks

I'm about to replace my 2000 Chevy Blazer ZR2 with a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, both 4wd/awd with neutral and towable.

Thanks for the reply,
I apologize for not being clear in my initial post, but kinda looking for a non-jeep...
Had two of them and wasnt really happy with all the maintainace and upkeep required.
Thinking more like foreign cars. That are towable. Which as I am finding are relatively scarce, so that's why I'm posting here for insights.
Thanks

Some of Buick's SUV's are towable if equipped correctly. I probably should have looked at them before buying my Wrangler.

Chevrolet Equinox AWD is towable 4down. Most years can be towed as is except for removing one fuse. Some later models only certain engine/transmission combinations can be towed as is.

One of the last Suziki Grand Vitaras would be a great option. Cheap, reliable, and a true hi/lo transfer case.

The foreign cars have mostly all dropped their approval for towing 4-down. I really miss my old Acura MDX that was towable. The new ones aren't. Most of the current towable SUV's are American brands: Chevy, GMC, Buick, Cadillac Ford, Lincoln, Dodge and Jeep. I think that none of these have a neutral gear case except for the Jeeps, the largest SUV's (Durango, Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade etc.) and maybe some pickup trucks. If you are willing to go back to a 2014 or earlier model, there are a few more choices, such as Honda CRV.
I am very pleased with my 2018 Lincoln MKX (since replaced with the Lincoln Nautilus).

We bought a 2015 cadillac SRX front wheel drive to tow. Very simple to make ready, lift the leather shift boot, press a small button, pull shift lever into neutral and go. No fuses to pull, no dead battery, we do start the car after putting it back into park at the end of the travel day and let the engine run for a few minutes. I believe the 2016 is also towable like the one we have. The newer ones are not able to be towed flat.

If you are firm on a transfer case and no Jeep's the only vehicles I know of are PU trucks & PU based SUV's like the Yukon. If you give up on the 2 speed transfer case there are tons of SUV's. Have you looked at the list for 2020? One that you might look at when available is the new Ford Bronco. Pretty sure it will have a transfer case.

Thanks for all the replies.
I am not 100% fixed on needed a transfer case disconnect, but really don't want to have speed/distance restrictions or needing to worry about running the engine every few hours etc and all that stuff. Just more to need to manage.
And I also had a freind who ruined the transmission on a chevy equinox by towing it (it didnt have a transfer case disconnect), I would just prefer not needing to have that extra wear on transmission etc.
I belive I will have to go with a yukon, seems like the best option for now.
Thanks everyone for the input!

Your friend with the Equinox did something wrong when he towed it (probably left it in drive instead of neutral). I have towed my AWD Equinox over 30,000 miles without the first problem. I tow it @ 70MPH for 4 or 5 hours at a stretch, then stop for lunch and start the Equinox and let it idle for 10 to 15 minutes, Then tow another 3 or 4 hours.

Check out the new 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid; AWD, great mileage and flat towable. Putting it in neutral tow takes 20 seconds - no transfer case manipulations - easy peasy. Can tow up to 70 mph. They suggest you run the engine for a couple min every 5 hours or so - most do. That's something I can live with. And it tows nicely... Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I wanted to let you know we just purchased a 2015 GMC Yukon Denali, with the transfer case neutral.
Its unfortunate there are no towable foreigns... Would have liked a lexus or a infinity or something of the sort but I suppose none of them are easily towable.
I'm sure the Yukon will be a good car though until something better exists.
Thanks once again for the input.
