Toad vehicle
Thank you all for your thoughtful responses. It really helped me decide. For those of you who asked about my explorer. I have a 2014 Explorer Sport, which has a curb weight of 4697. I'm at my limit so I keep very little gas inside and just haul around my bicycles inside. I see a lot of MH's haul Jeep Wranglers. I live in snow so I would need a vehicle with dual purpose, snow worthy and easy to tow around my MH.

My 2006 Jeep Wrangler automatic has a Curb weight of 3492 lbs, no need to disconnect anything. I do hang a couple of eBikes off the back and put an inflatable boat inside.

I just bought an older Jeep Liberty 4wd auto to tow behind my DP. GVW is 3875 which is well below your requirement. Small SUV style with V6 3.7L w Blue Ox and electric brake system under the hood.

Why pre 2012? 2014 was the last year towing was allowed as they went to a CVT in 2015.

A 2018 4 door JLU is probably a little lighter than the previous 2 door. I think around 4,100 lb. The new Wranglers use a lot of aluminum. The rear clip is the only body steel. The concerns about towing with electric steering is naught. It’s an electric pump, not an electric rack like newer Grand Cherokees which I hear can be a pain to tow. I bought the towing harness which I won’t feed from the Jeep.
I have been towing it with mag mount led lights lit from the Moho. Made a bracket that they stick to with it in the hitch. I got a little carried away with my reply, hope it helps someone.

Even 2 door Wranglers can get heavy if they are slightly set up for off roading. My 2006 TJU has a published weight of 3875 stock. After bumpers, winch, tires, wheels, brake system, and some light recovery gear it scales at exactly 4200lbs with 1/2 a tank of fuel.
Regardless of what you get as a toad you should weigh it so you know exactly what you are dealing with as far as gvwr/gcwr goes.

We tow a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk with a Blue Ox set up and SMI braking system. No issues.

Well, I have bought mine, have not set it up for tow yet, but that should be sometime in the next week. I bought a 2015 Wrangler Sahara 2DR 4WD, automatic. It replaces my 2013 Chevy Sonic that I was able to sell to someone on this board. As I recall the Jeep comes in at a little over 4,000 lbs which is well within the GCWR for my 31 foot Ford/Newmar motorhome. I am interested in finding out if it is much different than the 2,700 lb Sonic. One thing is for sure in that a braking system will not be a must versus just a legal and good thing to do.
