Question Towing 1996 Sunfire with 3 speed automatic ?

I have a 1996 Sunfire with a 3 speed automatic Tranie, Everwhere I read it says you have to have a 4 speed auto with O\D .
My question is can I Tow the 3 speed with the motor idiling going down the road, will that protect the transmission.

If the radiator fan runs and the rest of the car is O.K. it will probably work. If the engine stops, you'll burn up the transmission in short order. The cost of putting a base plate on a car Edmunds suggests is worth less than $2000 at best is not really economically wise because it's really not a good toad with that transmission.

remco ?

so does that mean that I could theoreatically install a Pump (remco) and that would aleviate that problem by keeping the trani cool.?
Does the fan also run with these pumps.. thanks for your help.

Theoretically, yes. A Remco pump kit runs $800 - $1000. You would also want the remote monitor so you know it's working.
