Towing 2014 jeep unlimited
Does anyone out there tow 2014 jeep wrangler, if so are you leaving the key in the ignition in the ACC position and disconnecting the negative cable as the manual states. If so when reconnecting the cable after towing do all the electronic features need to be reset?

You don't need to leave the key in ACC or disconnect the battery. If that's still in the manual it's an error. The steering wheel lock was removed sometime in model year '07, and there's been no need to leave the key in since then.
That's assuming you have the 4x4 version with transfer case, of course.

That's very strange. I can't imagine what would have changed. I recommend you go to jeepforum.com and PM the user "JeepCares". He's with Jeep customer relations. Ask him if he knows why. Or just look in the Wrangler forum there and see if there's any threads about this.

2014 Jeep Wrangler Owners manual and 2014 Jeep Wrangler User Guide have conflicting requirements/steps for towing.
Shifting Transfer Case into Neutral:
Owners manual says on pg. 548, step 10 to turn off engine and leave the ignition switch in the unlocked ACC position.
User Guide says on pg. 94, step 10 to turn off engine. My comments are it doesn't say what position to leave ignition.
Shifting Transfer Case out of Neutral:
Owners manual says on pg. 549, step 4 to turn ignition to Lock position. My comments are this goes along with step 10 when it said to leave in ACC position so that's why it is now telling us to turn to Lock.
User Guide says on pg. 94, step 3 to turn ignition to Lock/Off position. My comments are they seem to be assuming the ignition was in the ACC position.
Disconnecting Battery
Owners manual says to disconnect the negative battery cable.
User Guide says nothing about battery cable.
Very confusing information from two books of instruction. What I have been doing with my 2014 is keeping the key in my pocket and towing 4 down. Of course with Transfer Case in neutral. I have towed mine about 2,500 miles with no problems with the key in my pocket.
Perhaps someone will be talking to Jeep to resolve this conficting information.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but I was considering a Jeep and with over 500+ pages of an Owners manual, that's a LOT of reading Sounds complicated…

It is a thick book for sure. Much of it is like any owners manual it is to satisfy lawyers instead of instruct owners. Some is due to detailed instructions so anyone can read and understand. Looks like it has become so large that even the lawyers and Jeep can not get their books to jive.
What I like about the Wrangler is ease of hookup and towing. Does not matter where we RV, the Wrangler is the vehicle to take us to see the sights we came to visit. On or off road we can go and in fine comfort.

A jeep dealer informed me today that the 2014 model jeep Wrangler steering locks when the key is removed. I can't get mine to lock. How about anyone else?

My 2012 does not lock and they changed to no lock in 2010. Just switch into N on the t-case and shut her off and you are good to go. Lock the doors with the FOB on the way to the MH.

Actually the steering lock was removed mid build year 2008. My '08 JKUX was built in May of 08 and has no steering lock. I tow no key battery all hooked up doors locked and of course transfer case in neutral. I do have a charge wire run to the battery for long hauls. Our '12 Jeep Liberty pulls just the same and I use same setup back and forth between the two.

HabitatGuy is right, it was a mid year (2008) change when the steering lock was removed. I can't imagine that they've put it back but it is easy enough to check. Can you turn the wheel with the key in your pocket?
The need to update the owner's manual has also been discussed many times, since mid year '08.

They have not put it back. The lock is the chip in the keys now...heard different things about '09 or '10.....but don't want to give someone that has an '08 the thumbs up on no lock and have them mess their Jeep up. I knew that '10 was no lock, now I know '09s as well. Good to know. Any JK before '12 has that 3.8 in it anyway and should be sold and the new 3.6 bought as soon as possible. All 3.6s have no lock......
