Not always true. In WA, OR and CA towing a motorized vehicle behind another motorized vehicle changes the laws on supplemental braking. The two together become a "combination" vehicle and brakes are not universally required if you can stop from XX feet in XX MPH. WA and CA are the same and OR is slightly more stringent.
BUT, then WA adds a requirement that you have a break away system that can hold the towed on any normal highway grade for 15 min when disconnected. So, I can easily pass the braking requirement but still need a braking system to pass the last requirement.

Have 2017 Fleetwood Southwind and want to tow a vehicle 4-down. Pulled up beside another Fleetwood in AZ towing a manual Xmission Kia Soul. Am wondering how that would work? What modifications necessary? It is a light vehicle. Is it too light? Yes, could buy Jeep Cherokee which is equipped, but you still need to install towing plate, electric hook up. (those hooks in front are mis-leading--not for towing behind MH.) Chevy Equinox allows 4 down, but you still need to install equipment. So, if I tow Soul, do I have to install Drivetrain cooler, electrical bypass, pull fuses?? Sure could use some help.

However, I've found them wrong a few times (i.e. either missing info or simply incorrect). The final say should be either Kia's internet site/representative or the owner's manual. If you search on "Kia toad guide", lots of people do indeed tow the 6-speed manual. But if Kia doesn't officially ok that, there could be a warranty issue.

I tow 2014 Honda CRV and love it. I always use brake assist system, started with brake buddy. But I was not to happy with it, too many steps to setup. But the biggest issue was sensitivity level for towing my Honda. According to the manual for CRV weight set the sensitivity level between 40-45PSI. I set mine at the lower end just below 40psil (38-39). At this setting didn't have any problem stopping, but after getting home form our last trip, I discovered a major brake overheating on all 4 wheels. Had the dealership check out the bakes, no issues, it all pointed to brake buddy. Called Brake buddy tech support, was told that I followed the steps correctly, however the table is not a good guide for Honda CRV. He said, since Honda CRV has a very sensitive brake system I should set the sensitivity level between 25-35psi not what is listed in the manual, the table in the manual is for guidelines only "REALLY"
long and short of it, didn't want to take another chance, after replacing rotors and pad on all 4 wheels, sold the brake buddy, installed M&G braking system. Short set up, just plug in the airline from coach to car, no adjustment necessary.
My philosophy, fewer steps less chance of screw ups

this is like talking about children, everyone thinks his/hers are better than anyone else's .

i won't be an exception . i like my c-max energi. it's quiet, tall, big head room, heavy, sturdy, smooth handling, plus dinghy towable.

notice my trip 190.8 mi only consumed 0.52 gallon fuel, resulting in 364.3 mpg. per our normal driving habit, that's pretty much about it. the sweetest thing behind it - all the energy was from sun! i plug the charger to my solar system, 5-6 hours later the battery is full, capable of 28 miles .
