I've used a BrakeMaster 9160 for more than 15 years on several different vehicles. Now it's on my '14 JKU. Fully proportional and works off the air system on my MH.

Could have been the problem? Are you still using the system? Got the bugs fixed?

I did get rid of it and didn't use it but a few times.

The Stay-IN-Play DUO is progressive, meaning it applies the toad's brakes in proportion to how much the motorhome is braking.

The Invisibrake is progressive, meaning it does not care how much the motorhome is braking. It applies more and more toad braking strictly as a function of time.

Demco says you can use the Stay-IN-Play DUO with an air brake coach but you probably will need to reduce its sensitivity to keep the car's brakes from coming on when the coach engine brake is in use.

If you're buying the toad braking system new and have air brakes on the coach, just get the right one to start.

I used the" M&G" braking system for my 1997 and 2008 wranglers. It is sandwiched between the booster pump and master brake and activated by air coming from you secondary air tank on your coach. GREAT system!

Still thinking of the Stay & Play for the TJ. Our RV is a MB 3500 Forester. Looking at pricing.

I’ve found them on eBay a couple times. You can’t be in a hurry, patient is key. Too be sure it was new I took the serial number and contacted the company to ensure it was legit item etc before purchasing.

Craigslist is another option. I recently bought new flex steel captains chairs off of Craigslist in cloth micro fiber for half price. Yup I know they stopped making them. This place was going out of business and liquidating everything. Again patient is key. My seats were peeling so bad I had t shirts pulled over them just to keep them useable.

If you can be patient and diligent in your search you can save a lot. Best of luck in your quest!

Yup! I know about the waiting part. Not really in a hurry. The camper is winterized and not going anywhere soon. I'm still looking at towing options. I'm checking out Ready Brute. It's interesting in that it is mechanical with no electronics involved and very simple.

That should have read "proportional".

I pulled the trigger on getting the Ready Brute Elite 2. 8000 lb capacity. It's over kill to grow into and the whole thing weighs 40 lbs. I called them directly and had a good conversation with them. I like the idea of no electronics involved with the operation of the braking. The tow bar is integrated with the brake actuator so nothing to do but hook and go. It has a break-away safety wire and the only thing electrical is the idiot light on the dash to let you know the Jeep is braking. Also the attachment to the brake pedal is not in the way of your brake foot. I got the base plate that hides behind the bumper. Should be a good setup for us. It cost half of the setups in the $4K range. It will ship this week. I'll post picks if anyone wants them but there's tons of videos on YouTube.
Thanks for all the input!

20k mi on Ready Brute pulling a Grand Cherokee and not a problem.
It can be entertaining watching people trying to hook/unhook some of their toads with other set ups

I looked at the ready brute but do to the front bumper and winch in the front of my TJ this wasn’t an option without changing the bumper winch assembly out as well. The Stay in play was only 625 and I picked up a new black hawk all terrain for 350 (open box missing 2 Cleve’s pins) during the pandemic. Then sold the falcon bar that came with the jeep.

It can’t get any easier to tow than the stay in play once the initial install is done. All you do is throw a toggle switch on the kick panel. The upside is it takes both an electric signal from your brake lights as well as the surge for braking to take place.

I have not heard anything but good reviews on the ready brute as well. I have no doubt it’s a great unit.

One item that I think comes into play on either system is the led signal light that lets you know when the brakes are applied. During the day with it mounted on the tow veh rear view mirror I could never see when it was lit. I ran a wire to my tow pig tail harness then a wire to a led mounted on my dash so I can see when braking is applied.
