Towing a 2008 Duramax 4x4

Getting ready to begin towing my 08 Duramax 4down. I know how to put it in neutral. Is there a fuse I need to pull? Do I leave the ignition on to unlock the steering? Any words of wisdom is greatly appreciated.

On our 2011 Sierra 1500, we just put the transfer case in neutral and take the key out. You shouldn't have to pull any fuses, but to check for the steering lock just take the key out and see if the wheel locks!

I don't believe any fuses need to be pulled.

Your owners manual will list all necessary steps for towing 4 down.

fireinv202,
The smartest thing you should do here is, dive into your OWNERS MANUAL and follow all the setup instructions for, FLAT TOWING being an RV. While setup instructions for SIMALAR vehicles may be similar in nature, there could be drastic differences based on EXACT year and model differences.

If your truck LOCKS the steering wheel when the key is removed, then of course you'll have to leave the key in and, in some sort of "unlock" position, for it (the steering) to allow the wheels to turn in the appropriate direction when towing it. If, your steering wheel does NOT lock, key in or key out, then you'll not need to leave it in.

As for pulling fuses, again, YOUR owners manual will instruct you for YOUR particular year, make and model truck. Good luck and happy RVing.

For my 07 all I do is out the transfer case in neutral, trans in park, and remove the key. The steering wheel does not lock with the key out. If you leave the key in the accessory position it will accrue miles, don't ask me how I know. I have towed mine a few thousand miles with no issues.

If you leave the key in the acc position you will have a dead battery at the end of the day. Go ahead and ask me how I know.

Followed directions in manual. Put in neutral, place in park and turn key off. No fuses to pull. Towed back from the beach with no issues. Thanks to all that responded.
