Towing A 2009 Jeep Liberty

I have a question for this gathering of experts. I just purchased a Jeep Liberty that I'm going to tow 4 wheels down. I don't have the owners manual yet and I wanted to know if while you are towing the Jeep, does the odometer in the Toad add the mileage and do you count it towards the service intervals.
I think you put the transfer case in neutral and turn off the ignition for the time you are towing, which seems to me to disable the odometer.
As I said, I don't have the owner's manual yet, just seeking information.
Thanks, I really enjoy and have learned a lot from reading these forums.

The Jeep website allows you to download the pdf version of the manual.

Click 'For Owners' and the 'Owner/Service Manuals'. Then enter your year and model.

I don't think the miles will add on (they do not on my 2008 Grand Cherokee).

There have been some other posts about how the Liberty requires that you disconnect the Negative battery cable when towing behind an RV. This prevents you from using a Brake Buddy or other plug in braking systems.

We have an 06 Jeep Liberty & I wouldn't think 3yrs would make much difference in towing operation. For us: The odometer does not advance during towing. We do not count towing towards service intervals because nothing is running or circulating (just tire wear & observing alignment). Transfer case in neutral, transmission in park & ignition turned 1 click towards start. Steering will be free to turn & tires will roll. We have a "dummy key" for leaving in the Jeep ignition while towing. We keep the fob key with us for locking the vehicle. The reason for the "dummy key" is it engages the ignition for towing but will shut the engine down within a few seconds after starting - in case someone tries to unhook it from the coach & steal the Jeep, they won't get very far.

Your odometer will not accumulate miles on it when being towed. With your transfer case in neutral, there is no connection with the odometer. Have fun with your new Jeep. We are on our second - great toads!

It does not rack up milage, but I would keep an eye on the milage for tire rotation, wheel bearing service and diff service.
