Towing a Chevy Tracker
Any one out there towing a chevy tracker? I bought a 1994 tracker for towing behind my M.H. But the manual states NOT to tow it over 55 m.p.h. Or damage COULD occour.
Has any one towed this thing over 55 without any problems, and for how long.
Thank you for any help

First, these are Suzuki's, rebadged by chevrolet. I have owned 3 Suzuki/Trackers and towed them thousands of miles. All of mine ,were 4wd automatics. Transmission in park, transfer case in neutral, key in assesory position, and you are good to go. I drive mostly 58-60 mph, never had a problem. Make sure you start engine and shift thru gears to lube transmission each day or every 400 miles or so. Miles do not register while towing. Enjoy !

We had a ‘98 Tracker 2 dr soft top 5spd manual. Pulled no problem at 60-65. Happy and sweet. Don’t remember anything in the manual about speed limitations. Only went 200-300 miles in a shot. Worked great. FYI- we had a ‘91 Sidekick prior but didn’t tow that one but I think tranny was the same so I don’t think they changed much.

I've owned & towed two Tracker 4-doors, a 2000 and a 2004. I routinely towed both at 65 or so without any notable effects. It's all about heat build-up in the automatic tranny and that depends on a combination of factors such that there is no useful way to predict. The Chevy/Suzuki engineers err on the side of caution, of course.
Thy also advise to stop and run the engine every 200 miles; we did that, but it's our habit to stop for a break every150-200 miles anyway. Or if we stopped for fuel, it was easy to crank up the Tracker while the tank filled.

I towed mine from socal to wash state last year without issue. I also stopped every couple of hours And started my tracker to circulate the oil. I generally don't go over 60 when towing.
Please note that 2wd versions are not recommended for towing, not sure why.
Put transfer case in neutral, trans in a low gear, and unlock the front hubs. Leave key in.
You will need light converters if you wire the tail lights to be stop and turn so they will have a common light when towing.
Mine is a 1990 and it goes great ..

I towed a Geo Tracker for several years.... 4x4 Auto. Never had any problems. Usually towed at 60-65 mph. I did start the engine and shift thru gears at fuel stops or at end of day.
