Towing a Subaru

Does anyone have any experience towing a Subaru? I do know it has to have a manual transmission that is fine with me. Owned three so far but never towed any of them. Looking at the Forester or Outback wagon.

There are a lot of people on IRV2 that tow Subarus. Just turn the key to Accessory, shift into neutral and release the parking brake. No fuses to pull. You do need an auxiliary brake though as the Forester weighs over 3000lbs.(Don't know about the Outback). I use the Even Brake.

As long as it has a manual transmission you're good to go. My daughter has a Forester in Australia with a manual transmission and we've towed it with no issues down there.

Before I bought our 2012 Impreza, I emailed Subaru and asked them that question. The answer I got back was a resounding YES!, all Subaru AWD vehicles with MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS are 4 down towable.

The email:

Dear Mr. Rafferty:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web Site and for your interest in a 2012 Subaru Impreza.

AWD Subaru vehicles with manual transmission can be towed with all four wheels on the ground and the transmission in neutral.
When towing a manual transmission 2012 Impreza behind your motorhome, you would want the transmission in neutral and the key in the 1st position from "OFF." As all new models are equipped with digital odometers, mileage will not accumulate when being towed.

Thanks again for your interest in Subaru products. Have a great weekend, Burns.

Hi - I am interested in the 2012 Impreza. My wife and I own an motorhome and I need to know if the 2012 Impreza (manual transmission) is flat-towable (all 4 wheels on the ground @ 60mph) behind the motorhome and what, if any, restrictions there are. I'm not sure the salesperson really understood the question I asked.

And we just took our Impreza out last weekend for it's first run, towed like a dream! Heading Florida in a couple weeks for the real test!
We use the ReadyBrute Elite towbar/brake.
