Read the cars manual. Look for something like "recreational towing"meaning it being towed, not it towing.
My guess is that it cannot be towed without a transmission lube pump

Check your owners manual. Also try Remco.com.

Store : Remco
Looked it up...probably not towable 4 down as is from factory. You need to identify which of two transmissions they reference you have and call Remco and they will tell you if they have a pump that will allow you to tow it 4 down.

There have been more than a couple of posts about people losing their transmissions towing with the Remco. I wouldn't risk it. If you must tow a car (front wheel drive) that is not capable of 4-wheels-down towing, get a tow dolly. IMO.

I set up a rear wheel drive automatic 1989 Mustang for flat tow by installing a drive line disconnect. Required a shorter drive shaft, the disconnect unit, and release/engage cable/knob. No pumps required as trans was not engaged while towing.
Won't work for front wheel drive.

Remco as stated above. Also google Dinghy Towing guide then put in year model for some insight.

Could you point out those posts? I've never heard that.

In your case I wouldn't worry about it on a 2005 Toyota. No warranty to void or huge financial loss.
Think the reasoning that either the lube pump fails or doesn't do it's job right. But I never actually heard of a specific owner saying that. Only speculating on what could happen.

If the pump fails the alarm will go off before any damage is done.

We asked at a Toyota dealership once if any vehicles were flat towable. They produced a document for me to read which stated no Toyotas were approved for flat towing. I don't remember if that included manual transmissions but your question is about auto transmissions anyway so I would say don't do it.
