Towing capabilities of my 2014 Thor 22e

Question about my RV’s towing load capabilities…
Chevy Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
12300 LBS
Chevy Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR)
16000 LBS
Hitch Weight Rating
8000 LBS
The sticker on the hitch states 5000 LBS
So does this mean that the entire weight of the RV (22E) can be 16000 LBS and still put a load under 5000? Or does it mean that the total weight of the RV (22E) and the pulled load has to be under 16000 LBS? Which means the pulled load has to be 3700 LBS or less.

The 16,000lb GCWR is the total weight allowed shared between the coach and towed vehicle when loaded for travel.
The hitch weight is the weight that can be pulled with that hitch. I see 8,000lbs hitch weight online at Thor motor coach specs. So you can pull as much as the hitch can handle, be it 8,000lbs or 5,000lbs max (more normal for class C).
The GVWR of 12,300lbs is the maximum weight of everything in the motorhome, loaded for travel. Fuel, propane, water, food, people, pets, etc.
If this weight is under the 12,300lbs by a few hundred pounds, the towed vehicle can "borrow" that capacity, as long as you don't exceed the hitch max or the GCWR of everything connected for towing. It gives you some wiggle room for your towed, but you MUST GET EVERYTHING WEIGHED at a reputable scale to know what your numbers actually are.

thanks for the reply, it clears things up. I am going to get the RV weighed in the next couple days.

12,300 pounds is the total allowed weight to go on the vehicles suspension

16,000 pounds is the total weight that the drive train can pull, ie motorhome plus towed car, dolly, etc.

8,000 pounds is the max rating for the hitch, though in reality I doubt even completely empty that the actual towing capacity will be anywhere near this.

To put this another way if you are at your rated load of 12,300 pounds in the coach, the heaviest car you can pull around behind it is 3,700 pounds. Though that does not mean it will drive well at max weight and towing a max weight car. If you want to tow a car that weighs more than 3,700 pounds then you can't be a max weight on the coach.
