It was a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trail hawk with Active 2 4wd they recommend, it's not body of frame like the 4 runner. I did also test drive a 2012 Tacoma automatic at the lot, the dealer said it was flat towable but when I checked it was not.
I would definitely be interested in a 4 runner trail if it could be flat towed, I will do some investigation.

I could not find anyone that made a base plate for it but had decided to purchase an aftermarket off-road bumper that either had tabs or I could have towing tabs welded on. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...x/BX88266.html Just food for thought.

Had a conversation with my Co pilot and she wants to continue toadless this year and use the cash to pay off the MH instead.

Thanks all for the help,

I appreciate it.

Sorry I came into the game so late, not that it would have made a difference.

I have a 2011 FJ Cruiser 4x4 I have modified and absolutely love. My wife and I spent about 6 months looking for a toad, that is, after we had traveled enough without one to know we really did want a vehicle after we had set up camp.

We went through pretty much what you and your wife have. We looked at new, used, dollies, and renting..but the bottom line was, I didn't want to loose the FJ no matter what we did. I also couldn't justify having an extra vehicle around as a toad. So, I bit the bullet and put the driveline disconnect in.

Now I have my FJ where ever we go and I am one happy camper!! I love my FJ...did I say that already?

The FJ is paid for and all mine. Setting it up for towing was just about $5,000 once everything was done. I have taken care of it like it is one of the kids and will continue to do so. Obviously, I am hoping it will hold up for a good long time.

Just sharing my experience.

Happy travels!!

Chance

You are welcome to PM me if you have any questions.

Hi Chance,

Thanks for posting, it's good to hear to hear from someone that was in the same situation.

The 5k to setup the 4 runner can be put to better use paying off what's left on the MH loan at the moment. My wife's VW Awd cannot be flat towed either.
