Towing problems with Blue Ox and Jeep Cherokee Mopar towing system

Anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the so called “Death Wobble” while flat towing a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with a Blue Ox towing system? We haven’t had problems for years until recently when our vehicle suddenly begins to wobble violently behind our class A motorhome. We have to come to a complete stop in order to get it to stop wobbling. Happened multiple times on our last trip including while on an interstate bridge going 60 miles an hour and on state highways where there is no room to pull over. We first called Blue Ox and they said it was a Jeep Mopar towing system problem. Then we took it to Jeep service and they said there is nothing wrong with the Mopar system it must be a Blue Ox problem. We think the problem happens when the lane assist mechanism engages on the Jeep while towing. Any suggestions for a fix?

Do you have the Mopar flat tow anti-death-wobble harness installed on the Jeep?

The 2014 through 2018 Cherokees need to have a Jeep flat tow harness installed to power up the electric steering system during flat towing to prevent the wobbles you are experiencing. It sounds like your Cherokee doesn’t have the harness installed. You need to purchase the harness from Jeep and have it installed or install it yourself. You can search for many threads on this site related to the Cherokee death wobble and read reams of information on it. It’s not surprising that your Jeep dealer didn’t know what your problem really is, many dealers haven’t been very good on this issue. The requirement for the flat tow harness to flat tow should be defined in your owner’s manual under recreational towing. The owner’s manual for your car is available online if you don’t have your paper manual and can be found with a quick Google search.
